Cost and Obtaining Gorilla Permits in UgandaGorilla permits in Uganda are issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and the pricing varies based on visitor category: USD 700 per person per trek – International Visitors, USD 600 per person – Foreign Residents, USD 70 per person – East African Citizens (Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, and South Sudan).
A standard gorilla trekking permit allows visitors to spend one hour with a fully habituated gorilla family in either Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Uganda hosts 17 habituated gorilla families—16 in Bwindi and 1 in Mgahinga—providing 136 permits daily.
Uganda also offers the unique Gorilla Habituation Experience, available exclusively in Bwindi. USD 1,500 per person – Gorilla Habituation Permit. This experience allows travelers to spend up to four hours with a semi-habituated gorilla group alongside researchers and trackers—ideal for those seeking a deeper, more immersive encounter.
