Where is Gorilla Trekking Done in Africa?
Travel & Safari Tips
Where is Gorilla Trekking Done in Africa?Gorilla trekking is available in three countries—Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)—across four national parks that protect the world's remaining mountain gorillas: Uganda: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Rwanda: Volcanoes National Park. Democratic Republic of Congo: Virunga National Park.
In addition, DRC offers the opportunity to trek Eastern Lowland Gorillas in Kahuzi-Biega National Park.
All gorilla trekking destinations require a valid gorilla permit, and due to limited availability and high demand—especially during peak season (June to September)—it is strongly recommended to book at least 4–5 months in advance.
Permits and complete gorilla trekking safaris can be booked directly with the respective wildlife authorities or through a trusted tour operator such as Afri Safaris Ltd, who ensure a seamless and well-organized experience.
