Visas & PassportsA valid passport and visa are essential travel documents for anyone visiting Rwanda, Uganda, or Tanzania. In accordance with each country's immigration laws, all foreign nationals must obtain the appropriate visa before entry or upon arrival, depending on nationality and visa category.
Travelers visiting these countries for employment or long-term stays must follow the specific immigration and expatriate requirements set by each nation.
Important: All travelers from visa-required countries must secure the appropriate visa for Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania. In addition, all visitors must hold a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate.
Rwanda, Uganda & Tanzania Visas
Visas for Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania can be obtained either online in advance, through the respective embassies, or upon arrival at main entry points such as: Kigali International Airport (Rwanda), Entebbe International Airport (Uganda), Kilimanjaro International Airport (Tanzania). Travelers are strongly encouraged to secure their visas ahead of time to avoid delays. When applying online, you will be required to upload a recent passport photo and fill out the immigration form.
Passport Requirements
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended date of departure. It must contain sufficient blank pages for visa stickers and entry/exit stamps. Entry may be refused if you cannot provide proof of adequate funds, return/onward tickets, or other required documents.
Visa Exemptions - Rwanda
Citizens of the following countries can enter Rwanda visa-free for up to 90 days: Germany, Sweden, United Kingdom, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritius, Hong Kong, South Africa, and Canada. All other nationalities require a visa, typically issued at USD 35 for a standard entry.
Tanzania
Citizens of Commonwealth countries generally do not require a visa, except nationals of: Nigeria, India, United Kingdom, Canada. These nationalities must obtain a valid Tanzanian visa before travel or upon arrival.
Visa Fees
Single Entry Visa: $50, Multiple Entry Visa (6–12 months): $100, Multiple Entry Visa (24 months): $150, Multiple Entry Visa (36 months): $200, Student Visa: $100, East African Tourist Visa (Rwanda, Uganda & Kenya – multiple entry for tourism): $100.
Note: Citizens/residents of Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya may travel between the three countries visa-free using national IDs or valid travel documents. Standard visas do not permit any form of paid or voluntary employment.
Entry & Exit Points
Entry into or departure from Rwanda, Uganda, or Tanzania must be done only through officially gazetted border posts, airfields, and seaports. Ensure you pass through recognized immigration points to avoid legal issues.
